The Shinano class was an aircraft carrier built by the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) during World War II, being the largest carrier built in the world up to the Us Kitty Hawk in the 1960s. She was originally laid down as the No.3 modified Yamato-class but underwent changes and modifications. With the Yukikaze destroyer as escort, she was sunk by an American class submarine only 20 hours after leaving port, never having the chance to show her strength in battle.
