Service experience

On October 22, 1944, Yamato served as the core of the Kurita Fleet, including the 5 battleships including Musashi, 12 cruisers, and the second fleet of 14 destroyers. Brunei attacked and participated in the Battle of Wright Bay. On October 24, the Sibuyan Sea northeast of Leyte Island was hit by a violent air strike by the US Navy’s Third Fleet aircraft carrier. The Musashi was sunk, and the Yamato was only hit by a bomb on the front deck and retreated smoothly. On the 25th, the Second Fleet discovered the US military fleet. The Yamato 460mm main gun fired on the US ship at a distance of 32,000 meters.
